Harry Cadelago

Instructor: North Bay Wind Ensemble, NVC Orchestra, Applied Brass

Harry Cadelago has been conducting the NVC North Bay Wind Ensemble since 2006 and in the fall of 2009 added the NVC Orchestra to his conducting duties. He has conducted the pit orchestra for the NVC musicals: Sound of Music, Man of La Mancha, Gypsy, and Sweeney Todd.

Also in collaboration with the vocal department, he has conducted the master works of the Vivaldi Gloria and to a standing ovation of the Mozart Requiem. This highly successful partnership will continue this spring (2015) with a concert version of the Leonard Bernstein musical, Candide.

Mr. Cadelago has degrees in Music Education from City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. As a student he studied instrumental music and conducting from Dr. Ed Kruth and composition with the renowned composer Dr. Roger Nixon. After graduating as a music education major, he continued his musical development with bay area jazz keyboard artist Don Haas.

Mr. Cadelago started teaching in Napa in 1972 as a music specialist. Also, during that time period he played tuba in the North Bay Wind Ensemble and in the Napa Valley Symphony for twelve years. Harry is now retired from the Napa Unified School District after 38 years directing the award winning Silverado Middle School bands, Napa High marching band, jazz band, orchestra and concert band. He continues giving clinics to schools in the area.

As a look to the future, Mr. Cadelago would like to expand the NVC instrumental groups, including the NVC Brass Ensemble, chamber string and wind ensembles. Also he is teaching in the new Applied Music program, where music majors have the opportunity to take individual lessons and clinics. He is a long standing member of the California Music Educators Association and Music Educators National Conference.
